Our four week Beginners Course is for those interested in learning about archery the techniques and styles of equipment. All necessary equipment is provided at no additional cost. The Beginners course is the recommended option if you wish to take up archery as this will cover much more detail than a taster session and provide more coaching.

The beginners course run for two and a half hours over four weeks and include getting kitted out with a bow and arrows based on your reach, strength and dominant eye along with safety equipment.


The sessions are run by one or more (depending on availability and numbers of participants) of our qualified coaches and instructors and will cover:


Week 1

  • Recurve bows, arrows and other required equipment

  • Rules and safety

  • Shooting technique including stance, positioning, options for aiming

  • As many questions as you can come up with over the course of the session

Week 2

  • Assembling and taking apart your own kit

  • Shooting with a sight

  • Introduction to scoring

Week 3

  • The differences in types of bow and what to look for when looking to purchase your own kit. Remined you of the bows you have already shot, Recurve - barebow and sighted and demonstrate Longbows, Flatbows and Compound bows.

  • Working on improvements in your preferred style of shooting either Recurve (with a sight) or Barebow (without a sight)

Week 4

Shooting along with the rest of the club at the club target day to get used to shooting, scoring and interacting with other archers and club members.


We can cater for age ranges of six upwards but all under 18's must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the session.


Booking is required as places are limited. We require a deposit in advance to secure your place, £15 per adult and £10 per child (under 18).

You can send us a cheque or pay by BACS (address or bank sort code and account number available on request).  The beginners course fees cover all aspects of the course including equipment hire, insurance cover and general wear and tear to equipment. 


The good news is if you then decide to become a member of the club the cost of the course is discounted from your first years membership fee, provided you sign up within 6 months of completing the course.
