Gipping Valley Archers (GVA) was founded at and has shot at Claydon High School since its formation in 1998.
We shoot every Sunday throughout the year, on the High School playing field during the outdoor season (April-September) and in the sports hall during the indoor season (October-March) which allows us to shoot all year regardless of weather conditions.
Due to the successful growth of the clubs membership over the last year or so we are now holding two sessions on Sundays during the indoor season so that the sports hall is not over crowded. Sessions are 11:00 to 14:00 or 14:00 to 17:00, members may attend both sessions but can only shoot at one.
During the outdoor season we also shoot outside on Sundays from 14:00 to 17:00 and on Wednesday evening between 18:00 and 20:00.
The club has a wide range of members shooting bowstlyes from the Traditional Longbow, Modern Recurve and Compounds as well as less common equipment such as Flatbows and Horsebows.
We welcome all those interested in joining and would be more than happy for you to come and visit us to see what we do and if it is something you might be interested in taking up as a hobby. Types of Archery.
We run both single session taster course and a 4 week beginners course to give people an opportunity to try out archery in a friendly relaxed environment. Our taster sessions run every month and our beginners courses every quarter, normally in January, April, July and October. All of our coaches and instructors are DBS checked, First Aid trained and have attended Safeguarding training to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those attending our sessions.
We are a social club with the emphasis being on shooting for fun rather than competitively. However we do run regular club target days both indoors and out where members can work towards classification badges should they wish - see Classification. We also attend as a club organised competitions throughout the year.
