Gipping Valley Archers was founded at and has shot at Claydon High School since its formation.
We shoot every Sunday between 14:00 and 17:00 throughout the year. Shooting outside on the High School field during the outdoor season (April-September) and in the sports hall during the indoor season (October-March) which allows us to shoot all year regardless of weather conditions.
During the outdoor season we also shoot outside on a Wednesday evening between 18:00 and 20:00.
The club has a wide range of members shooting bowstlyes from the Traditional Longbow, Modern Recurve and Compounds as well as less common equipment such as Flatbows and Horsebows.
We welcome all those interested in joining and would be more than happy for you to come and visit us to see what we do and if it is something you might be interested in taking up as a hobby.
We run both single session taster course and a 4 week beginners course to give people an opportunity to try out archery in a friendly relaxed environment. Our taster sessions run every month and our beginners courses every quarter.
All of our coaches and instructors are DBS checked, First Aid trained and have attended Safeguarding training to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those attending our sessions.
We are a social club with the emphasis being on shooting for fun rather than competitively. We run a club competition on the 1st Sunday of each month and do attend as a club organised competitions once or twice a year.
As a club we run the 252 Award Scheme to encourage archers to improve their shooting ability by increasing their performance at greater distances - details of the scheme can be found here
